The corpus is meant to be a part of the cross; designed into it. The design of the cross is meant to be joined to the corpus as well, but the mass of the cross was designed to fall dramatically away into nothing from the juncture of the body and the cross. I wanted the crucifix to represent a vortex in thru to the singularity.
