A review of a modern dance performance was the inspiration for this sculpture. I clipped the photo out of the local newspaper, pasted it in my "idea" book, and thought about it for several years. Finally, I decided to give it a try. I sculpted the body, but I couldn't figure out how to do the flowing robes in clay without everything sagging. Finally, I tried strips of cloth pinned to the figure and saturated cloth with fabric stiffener. That worked, but finalizing the piece was very difficult. Even the foundry had a hard time making the mold! But I love the final result and the patina simulates a diaphanous gown. It reminded me of photos I have seen of Isador Duncan in her flowing robes. And so I named her ISADORA.
