Simplicity is the concept behind Bird Form. Not wanting this to be a typical wildlife sculpture, I eliminated as much detail as possible, I wanted the form to flow smoothly from one curve to another. And I wanted to make it irresistible for people to reach out and caress its ultra smooth surface. I was lucky to find a stone with the purity of color and hardness of this one. As I neared completion of the carving, the concept of creating a shadow as a base emerged—and in particular, the negative space formed by the bird's overlapping wings.
