Have you ever noticed how doves frequently are paired when sitting on a telephone line? Pure romance. My Turtledove could easily have been called Enraptured, as the piece reflects the passion that exists between these two creatures. There's an obvious harmony and interrelationship between the two, which was inspired not by Leda and the Swan legend, but by a 20th Century play entitled The Swan. In it, the woman falls in love with her swan visitor and they happily fly away together—forever.
