My career has spanned 33 years and has been varied and intense. It began in Willmar, Minnesota in 1976. My first sculptures were created in 1979, with my first collection of bronzes entitled Minnesota Heritage Collection being created in 1980 and 1981. I have created over 600 sculptures in a variety of subjects, including more than 15 large scale/public bronzes. My first monumental public sculptures were created for Trenton, New Jersey in 1991 and Windom, Minnesota in 1993. In 1996 I was chosen through a national call for proposals to design the Minnesota Korean War Veterans Memorial which was dedicated in September of 1998.
From 1996 through 2007 I resided in Arizona, operated The Norby Gallery and through the competitive process was commissioned to create five heroic public bronzes, as well as two sculpture gardens which encompassed eight life-size bronzes, seven life-size portrait busts and numerous other commissions. In 2006 I was awarded a one-person exhibit of paintings and sculpture by the West Valley Art Museum, Surprise, Arizona. Currently I am preparing a retrospective exhibit of sculpture and paintings for the Ravalli County Museum, Hamilton, Montana beginning in October 2008.
Beginning in 1999 I began painting seriously, concentrating on atmospheric subjects in large scale using vibrant colors in oil. I have also created numerous large scale figurative paintings.
During my residence in Arizona, I was appointed by Art Consultant for the town of Carefree by Mayor Ed Morgan. My art advocacy also brought me into the role of President of the Cave Creek/Carefree Gallery Association. During this time, I was also an active member of several community arts organizations and active in numerous civic activities.
Throughout my career I have attended workshops and taught studio techniques, as well as having taken part in school residencies at several grade levels. In addition to providing exhibit and marketing opportunities, I have mentored and counseled artists throughout my career.
Although self-taught, over a 30 plus year career my education has been enhanced by continued exposure to art in many styles by hundreds of working professional artists. I have travelled extensively, touring Paris museums, touring Spain and visiting museums throughout Italy.
In 2007 I retired from gallery activities to concentrate more intensively on my own artwork. This included completion of the heroic Stampede at Javelina Crossing , currently installed in Carefree, Arizona, and two additional bronze sculptures as well as numerous paintings.
